A shared experience

My first introduction to the world of prosthetics was terrible - I just remember a guy showing me lots of different knees and feet. I didn't know anything about them and I just remember myself saying that I only wanted to walk. Ana Chavira

You may not have thought much about it before, but there are literally millions of amputees worldwide. They, their families and friends contribute to a strong and  diverse community, which involves people from all walks of life and offers support, information and inspiration.

Ana Chavira Many of those people have sent us their stories, keen to share their hopes and aspirations with others and explore the ways in which they have moved on with their lives.

For some like Ana Chavira, who lost her leg to cancer as a teenager, amputation can turn your whole world upside down. Yet new hope and opportunities continue to emerge over time. Simply knowing that other people understand and have experienced similar concerns and emotions can really help, so take a wander around this section whenever you feel the need.
